 OLYMP-A-THON
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 20th 2008.

"The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph, but the struggle.  The essential thing is not to have conquered, but to have fought well.."
The Olympic Creed, written by Baron de Cobertin.

Our annual event known as (SPORT A THON) has now become one of the highlights on the school’s calendar for the past 6 years and to celebrate the occasion of the Beijing Olympics we have renamed it “Olympathon”.

On reflection, SPORT-A-THON is the one day of the year when Teachers, parents and children alike, let loose and enjoy the spirit and enthusiasm that has become Sport-a-thon.  It is a true “community’ event when parents, Aunts, Uncles and Grandparents volunteer their time to run all the sporting activities, cut the 100’s of oranges required to quench the thirst of the army of students who participate.

SPORT-A-THON has not only become a legendary fun day for the entire school community, it has also become a valuable component of our school’s fundraising calendar.

This year all the money raised will go towards landscaping and beautifying the new “grassland area” which will add a vital new dimension to our school grounds for the children to enjoy.

There is an old saying “That it takes many hands to make a village” this must refer to our local business community.  Over the past six years Rose Bay Public School has been fortunate enough to receive the support of the Sydney and local business community.  (See our sponsor’s page at the end of this article) and for their support we are extremely grateful.

A little trivia about the Olympics, which sums up what Olymp-a-thon, is all about.
This year the International Olympic Committee (I.O.C) created a promotional campaign aimed at their youth audience entitled, “The Best Of Us” it’s objective is to communicate the key Olympic values of EXCELLENCE, FRIENDSHIP and RESPECT, and after all isn’t that what we all strive for?

Of course, this day could not go ahead without our generous sponsors! They have our deepest gratitude!
